Meet your Hayle Town Councillors for the South Ward who will be representing you from May 2007 until May 2012. In alphabetical order:
John Bennett, 753184
I am a professional engineer who has lived and worked overseas for 30 years prior to retirement. I married a Hayle girl in Phillack Church in 1972 and both of our children were born locally. After being widowed, I am now remarried to Donna, a native of Chicago.
I joined the council in March 2005 as an independent standing for ‘thoughtful development of the harbour’. I hope to contribute to making sure that the major developments in Hayle benefit local residents and not just large corporations. I am now also a Penwith District Councillor and active in a number of local groups and charities.
Paul Birch, 755005
I was born in Nottingham in 1961, I am a father of 3 and recently became a grandfather. I moved to Cornwall (Penzance) in 1989 and Hayle in 1996. I have been on Hayle Town Council since January 2000, Deputy Mayor 2005-06 and Mayor from 2006.
I Play football for Hayle Football Club and have worked for Penzance Town Council as Finance Officer since 1995.
I want to see Hayle improved to become the leading town in Penwith for the benefit of my own children and the people of Hayle. I continue the fight for hospital services and for fire cover retained at Camborne - if we don't get a fire station in Hayle. I want to see the Harbour Development come to fruition and see the Hayle Area Plan achieve its goals.
Chris Head, 759317
I was born in Walthamstow, East London in 1951 and worked in sales before becoming music director for a church charity. I then started my own music PA company and worked with several well known artists including Cliff Richard, Rolf Harris and the King’s Singers.
Due to a serious back injury I left the music business and started again as a graphic designer, working from home, doing design for print and the web.
I now run my business from home here in Hayle and do work for both local and national businesses.
Jacqui Head , 759317
I was born in East London in 1950 but brought up in Essex. I gained a degree in Botany and Zoology and Teaching Certificate.
After several years teaching Secondary Science, I took time out to bring up our two daughters. I returned to teaching, eventually moving into the Primary Sector where I taught for ten years.
I was the main carer for my mother for fifteen years until she passed away in 2001. I now run a small B & B here in Hayle and am actively involved with the WRVS.
We were active in the organisation of the march through Hayle in support of our hospitals and, more recently, have both become actively involved in the Delivery Groups of the Hayle Area Plan. Chris is involved in the Business, Enterprise and Economy Group and is working to create a web site to promote Hayle. After a very short spell as Chair of the now defunct Tourism and Sustainability Group Jacqui is now responsible for overseeing tourism and sustainability within the Plan. Jacqui is also looking at cycle paths and cycle parking with the Transport Group.
Dick Horwell, 752597
I was born and bred in Hayle and I have lived here all my life. I worked for CEGB as an electrical fitter for 29 years. I founded the Hayle Tennis Club in 1978 and was chairman for 26 years.
