I was born in Bath in 1948, grew up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, joined the Post Office as an apprentice in 1964, and graduated with an honours degree from the University of Bath in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 1971. I met my first wife, Megan Coombe, in Bath, and we were married in Hayle, her home town, in 1972 - at Phillack Church. Megan's father, Ken Coombe, was Works Director of J & F Pool and had worked there for 50 years when he retired in the 1980's.
Both of our children, Ben and Beth, were born while we lived in Hayle. Ben was born in the (then) Bolitho Nursing Home and Beth was born at Treliske. Megan died in 2000 after a long battle with cancer, after nearly 29 years of marriage.
I am now remarried, to Donna Anton, a native of Chicago and long-time resident of Boston, Massachusetts. Following retirement, Donna and I have moved back to the family home on the Towans with Bazzle, our standard poodle.
