Firstly, I mailed out a report at the end of my service as district councillor at Penwith. This was done out of my own money and is the second report I have sent to all constituents. When I joined the council a common complaint was that, once elected, residents never hear from their councillor again. To overcome this I set up this web site, advertised in the Hayle Pump, put up notices in my display at Martins newsagents and sent out mailings for those who could not access any of these. This last mailing was not part of the election. I have received lots of positive feedback about this mailing.

Secondly, since the election campaign has started I have mailed out leaflets to postal voters that comprise about 20% of the total electorate. This is because the postal voters are spread all over the ward and it is quite difficult to hand-deliver accurately and I wanted to be sure every postal voter had a leaflet. Most other leaflets have been hand-delivered and I have personally been calling on voters in all areas of the South Ward. I have also been telephoning voters.

That is the whole point of an election campaign. I have certainly been trying to put my message across and I have been fortunate in having the trailer loaned to me by a supporter. I think the purpose of a campaign is to let voters know what you stand for. Not only do my posters and leaflets describe in detail what my position is on a number of important issues, I have written a detailed manifesto which you can read on this web site. If you can find out what my opponents stand for from reading their materials I would be interested to know.

I think the voters of Hayle deserve more than receiving generic leaflets that could apply to anyone, and I have refused to simplify my materials believing that most residents do not want to be talked down to but would rather receive detailed information.
